Raw African Black Soap

9 in stock

This traditional African Black soap is made from dried plantain skins, palm leaves, cocoa pod powder, and kernel oil. Plantains skins (of a fruit similar to bananas which grows in South America and Africa) are one of the main ingredients that make this soap so effective.  Plantains proved a natural source of vitamins A & E and iron.

In making black soap, plantain skins are dried to a precise texture under the sun, then roasted in a clay oven. The oven’s heat must be constant in order to achieve the perfect brownish black color, texture & smell. Then, cocoa pod powder is added.  Cocoa pod – the shell of the cocoa fruit.  Cocoa pods have natural healing properties.

Finally, the roasted plantain skins are mixed with palm oil and palm kernel oil to form the soap.  The darker the soap, the longer the plantains have been roasted.
